How You Can Make a Difference
Having a midwife with the right training, equipment and supportive environment present at birth makes all the difference.
The International Confederation of Midwives, together with Laerdal Global Health, have set an objective to train, equip, monitor and support 10,000 birth attendants in collaboration with the midwives’ associations of Malawi and Zambia. The goal is to help
save 10,000 more lives at birth by end 2016.
To reach this goal, we need to raise a total of $1.5 million. We have arranged a number of fundraising events around the world, and have raised $570,000. With our tipping point ($30,000), we will be able to train 2,000 midwives in
Helping Babies Breathe and
Helping Mothers Survive. These programs teach midwives simple measures to identify, prevent and treat the leading causes of death associated with childbirth. Our target amount ($100,000) will train 2,500 midwives in total, and help save 2,500 lives.
You can help.
Laerdal Global Health will match all money raised, meaning your donations will go twice as far. This funding will provide midwives in Malawi and Zambia the lifesaving tools and skills to make help at least 10,000 more mothers and newborns survive the day
of birth. With your donation, the day of birth can be a happy occasion in these countries too.
The more midwives who are trained, the more lives can be saved.
Our Products
LGH has developed life-saving devices that are simple, cost effective, and culturally appropriate. These products and training packages have been proven to dramatically reduce the rates of maternal and newborn deaths across the world.
In Helping Mothers Survive training, the MamaNatalie Birthing Simulator is used to simulate different birthing scenarios and common
complications so that midwives know how to detect different anomalies and have the skills to help prevent deaths related to bleeding after birth.
In Helping Babies Breathe training, midwives train with the NeoNatalie Newborn Simulator and Newborn Suction.
They are trained on tools such as the Upright Resuscitator that they will then use in clinical practice to resuscitate babies who are not breathing.
These tools and training packages give midwives the skills and confidence they need to help save the lives of their patients.
