The Duty of Design's Success Kits are creating a world where everyone, regardless of their financial limitations, societal/economic obstacles or barriers can enter the work force on even ground. By giving those in need a customized business suite (resumes,
cover letters, business cards, envelopes, messenger bags, and more).
We are giving them a sense of ownership that is linked to professional empowerment and independence. We are putting those that are entering the work force on equal ground with other job seekers. This isn't a hand out-- these are real, tangible tools of empowerment!
We are doing this by going directly to shelters, transitional housing programs, and professional development programs for low-income households and providing this service- for free! The program is no cost to the organization housing it, and is completely
free to participants. The program has a multi-day course led by The Duty of Design facilitators, community volunteers and design interns. The course emphasizes the importance of each participant's Success Kit and teaches participants how to successfully lay
out each document in a Word Processor Program. Our designers and writers will edit each resume, cover letter, and business card until it is in perfect condition. We will return to the community site at the end of the program to deliver each participant's completed
kit. The Success Kits will be printed on quality paper and include 10 copies of each participant's resume and cover letter. 25 business cards will also be delivered to the participants within an enclosed envelope and messenger bag. We will be sure to keep
a record of each participant's 'project' in case they would like to modify it at a later day. A digital copy will be sent to each community site and participant for re-prints as needed.
