The Reality
I know, from living it, and from working with parents across the United States, that it’s challenging to carve out time in the day, week or even month to create the mental space to reflect on how we’re doing what we’re doing as parents.
For the past dozen years I have been having deep conversations with parents about their ever-evolving roles in the lives of their emerging adults. I have discovered that, in general, parents think first of their children and secondly of themselves. I endeavor to disrupt that pattern, knowing that becoming aware of how we show up as parents—who we consciously choose to be— can have a huge impact on parenting our children.
Who I Am
As a parent, and as a teacher, principal, and administrator in special education settings for children from preschool to high school, I understand that parenting is both wonderful, heart-opening, and at times, daunting and heartbreaking.
Over the years I’ve discovered that having resources at my fingertips made all the difference in my ability to gain insight into my own thinking and behavior. Card decks have provided me with opportunities to be reflective, to explore, and to be inspired to take new and decisive action
I am passionate about kids, parents, personal development… and finding creative ways to playfully and thoughtfully address issues, questions, and concerns in life. Just over a year ago I became fascinated with the hero’s adventure and the parallels with the ever-evolving role of parents. This card deck, Parenting—The Hero’s Adventure, is the result of my journey
