We are a holisitic youth community development organization that works in the marginalized urban outskirts of Granada, Nicaragua. Our goal is to prevent children and adolescents from abandoning school and, above all, from becoming
"ninos de calle"- street children. We believe that education is the most important key to breaking this cycle of poverty. Seven days a week we offer a safe place for the children of this barrio to learn, eat a simple, healthy daily meal, and develop essential
life skills at our basic community schoolhouse in the barrio of Pantanal del Molino.
While this may not be the most glamorous way to begin our online crowdsourcing ventures, it is the most important long-term investment we can currently make for the school. The current latrine that the children use is over 20
years old and has recently been rendered inoperable, due to regular use by over 100 children a day. A new latrine is currently beyond a need, it is a necessity.
We have teamed up with a group of locals in the village who have volunteered to provide us with the technical consultancy and manpower to install a new compostable latrine. This new latrine will consist of a Western style flush
toilet that will provide a more sustainable, long lasting and, most imporantly, more sanitary option for the children. We have the outline designed and the necessary work involved committed, all we need is your help to raise the funds!
