Malawi takes the lead with the highest rates of cervical cancer in the world. 3 of every 4 women that contract it will die from this preventable cancer. We're ending that. Akazi was founded with the purpose of alleviating that burden in Malawi. It's all made possible with our incredible community created through our jewelry line, The Akazi Project. We craft high quality goods that fund all of our clinic operations (think Toms but, for women's health). Each purchase covers the cost of the screening and treatment process. Since opening clinic doors in March we have screened over 700 women! But, this is just the beginning.
Our number one goal this giving season
is to raise $10,000 to send our Malawian clinic staff to Kenya for an
advanced training in cold coagulation, the most advanced, efficient, and
effective way to treat for Cervical Cancer so that we can end this silent
killer of women.
We've accepted partnership with CureCervicalCancer to help bring our clinic to the next level. They offer training in cold coagulation, (whats that, you say?) a modern technology to treat cervical cancer in the field.
Thermo, or cold coagulation is:
- Affordable: Early detection allows for quick treatment to avoid painful, expensive surgeries.
- Portable: Battery powered. One charge can do 100 treatments, in the field, with no electricity. This makes us MOBILE to reach the most rural communities.
- Painless: No anesthesia needed.
- Repeatable: With a much shorter recovery time than invasive surgeries
With this process, cervical cancer is being eradicated, and with your help we can provide that for Malawian women. Our current option keeps us bound to the clinic where supplies are difficult to get and limits how many women can have access, given the rural conditions. Donations will allow us to head to the most rural communities to provide mobile screen-and-treat clinics at a fraction of the time and cost.
Our ask: Help us bring our team to Kenya. When funded, we will be able to purchase 2 complete cervical cold coagulator systems along with travel and registration for our clinic staff!
