BACKGROUND
Since 2011 I have developed my social enterprise to create handmade cultural products that will not only improve consumer's lives but offer employment to artisans and help communities access sustainable solutions for safe water and sanitation. I am a social entrepreneur, self-taught artist, fashion designer and natural products maker. My first product to market was a natural products line using Afrikan Shea Butter and Black Soap. I am currently selling them at pop-up events, online and three New Orleans stores.
PURPOSE
This project is to expand nana afia's ART EXPO operations to partner in Kumasi to start providing filtered water as a service in Ghana. Project Safe Water is a pilot program both here in the United States and Ghana.
The pilot will start delivering safe water through water filter systems capable of filtering water from any source to offer consumers an
alternative to higher priced options. I also developed a community water testing workbook
that can help communities monitor their drinking and runoff water sources.
3 million people in Ghana do not have access to safe water. In the United States we face more and more reports of unsafe drinking and ground water. Working together we can provide safe water access for both.
