DAY Cameroon has historically focused on providing income generating activites for the most vulnerable populations in Cameroon; typically, disadvantaged youth, AIDS orphans, and AIDS victims, who are often marginalized from society. We want to grow our programs
bigger and reach into more cities around Cameroon so we can continue to impact more and more people.
We wish to particularly focus on income generation for those at risk for contracting AIDS; particularly youth females. Poor girls in Cameroon often turn to prostitution to pay their school fees and have a small amount of spending money. We wish to empower
these girls so as to save them from putting themselves at risk for AIDS simply so they can attend school.
Through a partnership with the Peace Corps, we raised funds to carry out similar projects previously. These projects, shown in pictures below and in the video, were a huge success and led to people learning real skills to help combat poverty. We saw many
instances where people really put what they learned to use in order to provide extra income for their families.
However, our current funding is very low and we are unable to continue our projects without outside support. Cameroon has one of the highest AIDS rates in West Africa and there are many people who need our services very badly.
We are seeking funds to carry out the trainings in 4 other villags. At DAYCAM, we pride ourselves on carrying out trainings where most NGOs do not go; in the most remote, poorest villages who need the trainings the most. However, getting to these villages
along with our supplies is costly and we cannot ask the villagers to bear the brunt of that cost. We are hoping that you will give a little so that we can provide more training.
