Our story
Days for Girls is a not-for-profit charity with one simple mission: to create a more dignified, safe and educated word for every girl, through better access to long-lasting feminine hygiene solutions.
Millions of women and girls lose 5 days every single month because they don’t have what they need to manage their menstruation. This adds up to millions of days of lost school, work, and opportunity. Girls have to resort to using leaves, mattress stuffing, cornhusks or anything they can find. This not only leads to days lost, but severe infections and disease.
Days for Girls has a solution. We have designed a washable Feminine Hygiene Kit. These kits are made with love by thousands of volunteers around the world or by local women filling the need for their own community. Quality matters because women and girls depend on this product, and kits have to endure frequent washing in harsh conditions. The kits include 8 absorbent flannelette pads, a washcloth and two moisture barrier shields, which are all kept inside a drawstring bag that she can carry to school. One kit can last for 2-3 years, and give back 180 days of education, health and dignity.
How you can help
Days for Girls Australia is in serious need of funding to buy flannelette. Flannelette is the key component of our Feminine Hygiene Kit. Donating just $10 will provide enough flannelette for 2 kits and 360 days gained back in school. $100 will provide enough flannelette for 25 kits and will help girls gain a whopping 4,500 days back in school. In many countries, women are being taught that menstruation is a curse and is a reminder that they are worth less. Days for Girls is helping them to remember that their bodies are their own, and that they are worthy. So far we've reached over 200,000 girls in 100 nations.
