Feed a Cluster House at New Hope for Cambodian Children
I will be returning to New Hope for Cambodian Children (NHCC) during the Australian Summer Holidays (depart December 10, 2016). This will be my fifth visit since first assisting there from October to January 2014-2015.
I am so excited to be returning and helping the wonderful teachers and volunteers that give so much of their lives to help these children.
Some background information:
New Hope for Cambodian Children opened in late 2006, ‘Our Village’ is an 18 acre property located in Kampong Speu Province that provides a full range of housing, nutritional, health and educational needs to orphaned and abandoned children impacted by HIV/AIDS.
In the last few months- 'Our Village’ has gained an extra 87 extra children. This brings the total to over 300 children from babies to 18 Years Old who have no other housing alternative; most of these children were orphaned when their parents died of AIDS, and others come from families who no longer have the capability or financial resources to care for them. The children are referred to NHCC by hospitals, INGOs and NGOs. Most orphanages in Cambodia will not accept children with HIV, thus the children are referred to NHCC.
In 2013, John and Kathy Tucker started NHCC International School to give the children the best education possible. The children of 'Our Village' attend school on-site full-time.
Through donations, the school has expanded to 17 dedicated classrooms and continues to expand so the older students can attend full-time.
The main aim:
To feed as many hungry mouths for as long as possible!
The Fundraiser:
They say it takes a Village to raise a child. With the extra intake of 87 children in recent months that’s now 308 mouths to feed, 308 beds, 308 multiple sets of clothes, 308 kids to educate!
The children of NHCC live in 8 Clusters. They are grouped in ages. So each cluster has 3 houses with a central kitchen, 2 nannies and a cook.
It costs US $2,500 a month to feed one cluster!
I want to raise as much money as I can to provide meals for a cluster for as long as possible.
Please be part of our Village!
Many of you have been so generous in the past and I am so proud of the work we have already achieved.
Please give what you can- it doesn’t matter how small.
Your generosity for the Pencil campaign in 2014 was in excess of $2,700. This was a wonderful way to first arrive at NHCC and assisted in the purchase of a photocopier, computers and a substantial amount of stationary needs for the school community.
Last year’s December campaign raised $4,011 to furnish 2 Science labs that are now up and running directly from YOUR help!
Use Of Funds
$20: Feed a Child for a week
This takes into account the food, the cook and general maintenance of a child at NHCC.
Please note that Cambodia uses US Dollars.
$50: Feed 2 Children and a bit more
The fluctuating dollar, ALL drinking water comes from bottles, so does gas for cooking.
$100: That's 5 children you've assisted this week!
Say no more!
Beyond $100: You're a legend!
Electricity costs a bomb, so does fuel... you've just chipped in for that too!
$1,000 TIPPING POINT GOAL
The tipping point for this campaign to be successful is $1,000.
Once the tipping point is reached we are good to go! All money will be transferred directly to NHCC, and will be used to purchase fresh food for the cooks to feed these 308 beautiful kids!
If the tipping point is reached, the stretch goal is $1,500 or beyond!
This will assist Kathy and John make immediate future plans for the dietary and health needs of these beautiful children.
