What is the global digital divide?
In 2011 65% of world population still don't had access to the internet. In 2013, this number would surely be around 45%. Many of them live in the developing world. Without internet access and without knowledge about the possibilities and a PC to access,
these people won't be able to take part in modern life. They have no chance to get a good education which is up-to-date. In big cities it would be possible, but only a short distance away there is often no chance to provide an education which helps to find
a reasonable job.
Who helps to fight this digital divide?
My company - eitipi GmbH, an IT-Startup in Switzerland -
will provide a complete PC-environment, used but perfect condition for the school. As I can't stand to throw away real good PC-equipment, my vision of helping others grew over the years.
This campaign is strongly supported by Dr. Thomas Schlag, a professor of theology at the University of Zürich in Switzerland. He helped me to find this school near Johannesburg, which truly needs this equipment. He visited this school with other scholars
and students while traveling to South Africa in September 2012. He had a look at the situation and is still in intensive contacts with the headmaster of the school. He will provide another 10 PC-Equipment from his Faculty of theology.
What we want to do?
We asked for donation of used computers in order to give them to institutions that really need these to improve their possibilities in future. The 50 PCs and peripherals will make it easier for the pupils to get a more modern education and probably better
can find a job than without. This environment is ready to be sent to South Africa, where many pupils would like to get their first computing skills.
Who needs help?
The Mayflower Educational College in Potcheftsroom do. The school takes only a small fee for studying so they won't be able to afford such a huge investment.
How can you help?
As it is only a goodwill project we don't have enough funds to finance the transport on our own. So we have to ask you: Would you like to help the pupils of the Mayflower-School to have the chance of a much better future?
The computers have to be picked
up near Lucerne and brought by Truck and by ship to South Africa.
Thank you!
