Rusinga island is based in the south West of Kenya. With a 40% HIV infection rate, a generation of children are growing up without support and the necessary income to access basic primary education.
We see a future where children living here have the opportunities to learn, play, remain healthy and fulfill their potential by attending school..Without the school, due to rampant levels of poverty and
the impact of HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, the majority of our pupils would not be in a position to access education at all.
For these to be attained, there is a need for them to start to have a strong income generating activity to fund the costs without relying on external donor support from time to time. It’s in this regard
that the Alekii Centre wish to train, equip them to be self reliant and thus fight poverty.
Therefore our HELPING project is a project that aimed to support young orphans at Alekii Centre Kenya to keep Goats, Cows, Sheep and pigs to support their basic needs and seeks to address the following
Objects:
-To help purchase 220 livestock (cows, goats, sheep and pigs) to restart and ensure diversified production at the Centre raising funds to support the families/guardians of the orphans at the Centre fighting
poverty and becoming self reliant hence living a fulfilling life by September 2012.
-To Raise money through the production to pay school fees and other basic needs for children at the centre.
-To reduce malnutrition and increase livestock cows, goats, sheep and pigs available for the families/guardians
