Overview
There is a huge demand for safe organic food in Yangon due to large amounts of chemicals used in the production, unsafe processing and long, exposed transport of produce from the farms to the city.
Kokkoya Organics is Yangon's newest urban farm. We started preparing the land on September 23rd and are now getting ready to start selling our vegetables in December.
We are a social enterprise that trains young women from around Myanmar in organic farming techniques and management. Our produce will be sold through a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) system that will create a community of like-minded, supportive members around our farm.
Once we are established we hope to invite other farmers to short trainings and workshops and start a fund to help others switch to safer and more environmentally friendly farming practices.
$5,000 Tipping Point Goal
We have already started to grow food on site, but to really become a model working farm, we need your help!
Your money will be used for:
- soil preparation (as we are farming on straight sand, we need to buy a lot of compost from a local supplier to plant into)
- water treatment, storage and irrigation
- walk-in cooler to store our vegetables properly
- composting toilets (for the farm and our neighbouring tea-shop)
- processing and packing station (clean veggies are safe veggies)
- extended plant nursery
- farm tools
$15,000 Stretch Goal
Any extra funds will be used for:
- office and training room
- extra training for our staff (computer and english)
- computer and camera to help us record 'how-to' videos and train staff on
- signs on the main street so people can find us
- trainings for others to visit and learn from our farm
- community outreach projects such as green waste collection to help us make our own compost
