Help us make a difference in young people's lives by providing them with supported labour hire work
We are excited to share that the Ian Potter Foundation has kickstarted our campaign by donating the first $100,000! Absolutely amazing! Now, we need your help to raise the additional $50,000 we need to specifically employ a youth support worker for the next two years.
Who we are?
Project Youth is a non-profit youth service that has been operating for 25 years in the Sutherland Shire and St George areas that provides wraparound support for young people in need.
What is Labour Y?
Labour Y is a labour hire social enterprise that assists at risk young people into supported employment to help them overcome the significant barriers to social inclusion that they face. By providing practical support, Project Youth are giving these young people the tools they need to build their confidence and skills. This aims to prepare these young people for future permanent employment and the transition to independent adulthood.
This program was developed in 2014 through a partnership between Project Youth and a local business in Kurnell, ESG Asia Pacific. Since then we have seen several young people complete the program and go on to gain full-time work.
One of our greatest success stories, as shown in the video, is that of Cam, who upon completing the program was hired by ESG and now supervises young people like himself in the program. We want to have more stories like this.
You can read more about it here: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/b...
What do we want to do?
We want to expand the program so we can help even more young people!
To do this we plan to hire a manager for the program to focus on developing partnerships with more businesses and hire a youth support worker to focus on providing the necessary supports to the young people in the program, be that transport to and from work, providing lunch, and working with them to address any other barriers to maintaining permanent employment opportunities.
Through expanding this program we will be aiming for self-sustainability so we can keep supporting young people in the future and have a long-term impact.
Why do we want to do this?
We hope to see a future in which at risk young people are equipped with the skills and experiences to gain employment without having to overcome several barriers. We want to reduce long-term youth unemployment and break the cycle of disadvantage experienced by the young people that we work with.
It is already hard enough for young people to get their first job without having to face multiple challenges such as experiencing homelessness, poor physical and mental health, alcohol and drug issues, criminal justice issues and educational disadvantage. These are all things that the young people we work with often face.
Through personalised support we can work on these areas to enhance young people’s opportunities to improve their wellbeing and gain independence.
It’s not easy though; there are challenges along the way. And that’s where we need your help. It takes a community to make this change and create the future we want to see.
So donate now to help us make Labour Y bigger and better!
