Red Eye Gravy Theatre Company presents "Romeo & Juliet." Romeo & Juliet is the most famous love story ever told. Why can't the greatest love story be about a young,
gay couple? In our production, Romeo will be played as a woman. Having the title characters be a gay couple is not only socially innovative, but speaks to our cause of promoting awareness about gay teens being bullied and resorting to suicide. In addition,
after the shows, we hope to have Q & A sessions with speakers in the DC community to start a conversation about the changes we would like to see. The idea that young kids are being bullied for whom they choose to love is reprehensible. We want to start some
good in the world by promoting awareness under an artistic platform. This is a story that everyone knows. What they don't know is that the story is just as profound and beautiful when the lovers are gay. What they don't know is that teenagers at their schools,
at their churches, and in their communities have nowhere to turn. They don't have to be alone. The show is dedicated to the memory of Gaurav Gopalan, a member of the DC Theatre Community who was murdered this past summer. All profits from the show will go
to The Trevor Project.
