The Makindu Friends Women's Group was established in January 2011. These 37 women from all ages come together to talk about one common issue: how they can feed their families. These women come from all walks of life, single mothers, great grandmothers, widowed,
HIV affected and little or no income. Water is scarce in this particular part in Kenya with no sufficient rain in over twelve years! The rivers have dried up and the women can only access a small amount of drinking water from the wells in the town. Funds raised
will help start and sustain a farm for the women. This is how they will provide food for their families, have an income and run their future orphanage on site. The women will have this sustainable farm where they won't have to rely on the unrealiable relief
food.
$6,500 Tipping Point Goal
If we reach our tipping point we will be able to:
Dig the water well ($5500 for the use of the machine and the owners to run it and another $1000 for the gas motor) We chose this as our tipping point since we will be able to start some small farming projects with the access to water.
Funds raised beyond the tipping point we will be able to:
Build and start one fish farming basin ($2300)
Build and start one greenhouse ($3000)
Fence off the 20 acres of land. If this isn't done then all the work that is accomplished could be potentialy ruined when elephants walk through the area. ($2500)
Large water tank and piping ($500)
Transportation to and from the Mama's to work on the farm (until they start profitting from it) ($200)
**** new **** for everyone who donates ANY amount your name will be displayed on the borehole (well)!
