WHO ARE WE?

Paper Mountain is an artist-run-initiative (ARI) and non-for-profit with a gallery, studio spaces and an open-access community space in Northbridge, Western Australia. Supporting artists and arts workers in the early stages of the career, we've somehow made it the last seven years. This has been possible only because of our incredibly talented and dedicated volunteers, our passionate community and the organisations we partner with.
OUR STORY

Founded in 2011 by four arts graduates who wanted a new place they could call home, Paper Mountain provides high-quality programming, affordable studio spaces for artists and a common space for events and workshops. Our organisation is completely volunteer-run with a leadership team working in various capacities in the arts industry.
Since our beginning, we have become a unique and much-loved place for artists and creatives where we've supported hundreds of artists and arts workers and their projects. As a grassroots-led organisation, we are committed to our community by ensuring everything we do is guided by and accountable to our community of volunteers, artists and audiences. This also means that we do what we can to ensure our space, events and programs are as inclusive as possible, providing a platform to empower our artists to share their stories. A part of this process includes a significant amount of peer support, mentoring, coaching and a network of people who are willing to inspire each other.
Over the last few years, we have focussed on improving our business model, building the capacity of our team, while ensuring that we continue to deliver ambitious arts and culture projects creating opportunities for our artists and arts workers to exhibit, present and have foundational experiences to further their careers.
WHY WE NEED PAPER MOUNTAIN

Perth is an abundant of arts and culture and a space like ours provides artists and arts workers to create their own opportunities. A space like ours is certainly necessary, and it can be seen as we've had more collaborative projects with more partners than ever in the last year, and continue to have some pretty incredible projects in the pipeline.
Importantly, our impact has gone beyond what we could have imagined as we have exhibited and presented the artistic and cultural narratives of emerging contemporary indigenous artists, people from the LGBTQIA+ community and those who have lived experiences as refugees and we will always be committed to amplify their voices.
YOUR HELP

The success of this campaign will help us sustain and expand the impact that we can have for arts and culture in Perth. Through your support, there are three things we will be able to achieve.
First, funds will help cover some of our costs, so we may continue provide our space as a platform for creativity. Second, we will be able to improve our community space, providing better facilities for use by our creative community and strengthen our creative programming. Finally, we will be able to explore opportunities to take Paper Mountain to the next stage to increase our impact by establishing new creative hubs in partnership with key stakeholders.
