It takes special people to do special things and that is so very true when it come to the incredibly, amazing and emotionally difficult work that so many charities and their volunteers do. As a husband and wife led team, we quickly acknowledged that, although we wanted to help, being on the front line of support would be too difficult. So we asked ourselves, what could we do and how could we find a way to support as many causes as possible?
So we started looking at industries and advertising to see if we could re-shape or re-direct some revenue from existing industries towards charities and what platform could we create to achieve this.
We discovered that close to $1 billion is spent on radio advertising in Australia each year. Imagine what charities could do if just 1, 5 or (dare to dream) 10% of this could be re-directed to their causes.
We did, so we created Phoenix Airwaves – ‘Radio With A Cause’. An internet radio platform and our launch campaign - To become the ‘Heart Of Charity Radio’ by offering registered charities and not for profits the opportunity to have their own individual station as part of the Phoenix Airwaves platform, where not only could they raise more funds but they could use the station to promote themselves and they fantastic work they do.
Then we thought, how powerful would it be, if some of the people the charities support actually had the opportunity to briefly step away from their challenges and enjoy programming music for that charity's sessions? (e.g.: a child in hospital waiting for their next operation, or a homeless person spending the night at a shelter)
Phoenix Airwaves - Radio With a Cause, was established with this purpose in mind. You can listen live to our Pilot Station.
We officially support a number of awesome charities (see below), donating 50% of every advertising package sold, to assist their ongoing work.
The creation of this innovative internet radio platform is focused on providing:
- Great music (that's a given!)
- A 'distraction' from the challenges of the day, for those who are going through hard times & are assisted by the charities we officially support
- An opportunity for charities to capture some of that $1 billion advertising market.

Please help us launch these awesome Australian charities with their own internet radio station.
What do we need and how can you help?
Each charity will need to find 1 station sponsor $149 per month (and they are only allowed to have 1 as the sponsor receives bonus ads, logos, links and extra exposure) and this monthly amount keeps the station live going forward. 50% of the station sponsor package and also all other advertising packages sold is then forwarded to the charity by Phoenix Airwaves as a monthly donation.
We are hoping that StartSomeGood could help by raising funds to cover the first 12 months giving the charities the opportunity to go live and the time to find their Station Sponsor and begin selling their advertising packages.
$894 per charity station - $74.50 per month (50% of $149) x 12 months.

MUSIC IS POWERFUL
It has a massive impact on our emotions and our memories, it's as universal as love and it touches virtually every aspect of our lives. From the entertainment at big sporting events to the hair raising tingle from a movie soundtrack. We celebrate weddings, birthdays and life events with it as well as escape to the solitude of our own earphones. Every couple has 'their' special song just like every person has a favourite one.
It is practically impossible to go a day with hearing music, at home, in the car, at work or even in the background of a shopping mall.
Music has the power to lift our spirits, shift our mood, raise our hopes or bring us calm and peace. It marks time and stamps our memories.
As Bono said "Music can change the world because it can change people".
