ACTION PLAN
From March 17 to April 4, 23 Queen´s teacher-candidates will be fulfilling their Alternate Practicum with the Canadian social enterprise Companeros Inc
www.companeros.ca at a school in Barrio Grenada, an impoverished neighbourhood in the capital city of Managua, Nicaragua.
In addition to providing classroom support and activities, Queen's students will effectively alleviate some obstacles to learning. By building 3 houses with Queen's students 15 local residents will live healthier lives and higher educational prospects.
Working together with families in Nicaragua, Queen's students will build 3 new, elevated, 3 metre x 6 metre, solid wood houses. They will be the catalysts for 15 people - 5 parents and 10 kids - moving off the ground, out of a shack, and into dry, decent,
dignified housing.
BUDGET
Each house cost $2400 (x3=$7200) including materials, equipment, delivery, local labour, crew meals, security, fundraising, and project coordination. All goods and services are procurred in Nicaragua.
After 2 days of construction, the house becomes the property of the family. Companeros Inc has constructed 77 houses to-date and expects to complete 15 more in 2014.
Companeros Inc is proud to work in partnership on this project with TECHO
www.techo.org
A small amount can make such a big difference in the lives of 3 families. Please support Queen's students helping others to live and learn better by supporting this campaign. Thank You and Gracias!
