Voices GY has emerged as one of Guyana’s leading civil society organisations in the areas of cultural integration, linguistic diversity and human rights since activities began in April 2018.
Together, we have worked to bring Guyanese together with vulnerable Cuban and Venezuelan refugees and migrants through language events, social programs, research initiatives and social media campaigns.
Among our recent projects have been:
- Guyana´s first English language program specifically for refugees and asylum seekers
- The first Guyana-Venezuela Day, 2018, which brought out more than 600 members of the public to celebrate Guyanese and Venezuelan culture.
- Research and report on the challenges faced by Venezuelan refugees in Region 1 in accessing education and acceptable living standards (presented to the National Committee on the Venezuela Response)
- More than 15 multi-language social events to celebrate Guyana´s linguistic diversity and promote multi-cultural bonds and inclusiveness.
Our small team (consisting of Charlie, Christian, Gordon, Amy, Tiffany, Malkia, Nicolás, Francesca, Nicholas and Lyndell) work primarily as volunteers.
In 2020, Voices GY is looking to expand on our positive contributions to Guyanese and migrant communities in terms of language support, livelihoods, and integration for vulnerable persons.
