Welcome to Project Rethink Plastic -
The project started with a friendship of two generous souls, from opposite sides of the world, Australia and India.
Our objective is clear and precise. We WILL be, the positive change, the world currently needs. We WILL transform all cities and communities from the "Global" addiction to plastic use via our clever purpose driven fundraising campaigns.
Generations to come, will not be subjected, to the current predicted outcomes, from our individual plastic consumptions. Creating the way forward, we believe, educational resources should be shared ONE WORLD / ONE PLANET.
Quoted from Maya Angelou, one of the wisest ladies to enter this planet
" If you don't like something, change it" ... "If you get, give, if you learn, teach"
Research has confirmed that lack of public awareness is the fundamental problem. Affiliated with like-minded organisations, government representative's and local and international hero's, the fundraiser "Rethink Plastic" will be launched into Australian Schools just in time for Plastic Free July.
Our team, has been working hard to design, develop and implement " The Future of Fundraising" Purpose driven campaigns, addressing such critical environmental issues.
The program is a 'breath of fresh air' in the Fundraising arena. The clever interactive system provides the social awareness, society is currently missing. Additional to this www.rethinkplastic.com.au (still currently under construction) presents empowerment of all individuals with;
- Film Impact offering international documentaries, presenting age appropriate visual representation for all to learn and discover the significance of the plastic problem.
- Educational lessons plans, kindly provided from an expert panel of world leaders in the field.
- Heavily discounted product substitutions, for immediate reversal of individual impacts.
- School & Organisational Rebates, provided to parties who join starting a Rethink Plastic Group.
The program will encourage Australian children to educate their immediate friends and family. It provides age appropriate quizzes, media and articles that will shake the power within each and every one of us. Certainly the mothers of Australia, will welcome some fundraising that requires no real work.
Once funded, the program will be launched into Australia, The educational information will then be shared with developing countries, providing a head start to beat this global problem. Together, we will work as #Oneworld by sharing our resources, not recreating them.
The residents of Australia need to be educated on the epidemic of plastics and the devastating effects resulting from unnecessary plastic use. We live in a world that is not sustainable, our eco system is suffering and we simply cannot go on like this. Scientists have confirmed that by 2050, the ocean will have more plastics than fish.
Its no secret the Western Australian Labour Government has announced their intention FINALLY ban lightweight single use plastics from 1st July 2018. We are on the COUNTDOWN.
Recent studies from the CSIRO have found that lightweight plastic;
are easily blown by the wind (from bins, landfill and households) into our streets, waterways and oceans.
cause the death of marine life;
enter the food chain, meaning YES we are digesting this plastic;
plastic does NOT break down in landfill;
plastics are difficult to direct into the recycling processes; and
consume significant oil and water resources.
- Each year Australia alone, consumes 6.9 billion bags a year of which 3.6 billion are single use plastic shopping bags.
- 36,700 tonnes of plastic bags into our landfill every year. This figure represents 7150 bags per minute or 429,000 per hour.
Australian Hero's will continue to be acknowledged via our website and social accounts.
Suppliers, the proactive and the reactive. To date, we have been identifying responsible retailers and publically thanking them for their choices.
Rethink Plastic has also been suggesting companies, who have a larger contribution of single use plastic, reconsider to assist with this global problem.
The website will also be taking suggestions for recommendations to contact and discuss their plastic use.
