About:
Revive was founded in the fall of 2013 by five Hult International
Business School MBA students from North America, Europe and Asia. The team brings together
professional backgrounds in engineering, marketing and communications, medical devices and entrepreneurship.
Mission:
Revive's mission is to reduce the rate of cancer in slums through the use of affordable, mobile diagnostic tools. Through community outreach and early diagnosis performed by individuals from slum
communities, Revive will bring employment and empowerment to slum communities. Additionally, with a scalable, franchise model, Revive can be tailored for individual communities and can be replicated globally.
Expansion:
Following the launch of the Dharavi Pilot, Revive will continue to expand their reach by targeting Manila in the second phase.
One team member originally comes from India and we are currently working with a number of local NGOs and venture capitalists to establish a working partnership.
A second team member is half Filipino and is also working on establishing a network of partners through personal contacts with NGOs and medical providers in Manila.
$3,000 Tipping Point Goal
Tipping Point:
The money raised will support Revive's travel to the Dharavi slum in Mumbai, India to conduct field research and refine their business model.
The total cost of travel and marketing costs from Revive's current base in Shanghai, China is approximately $5,000. This includes flights for 4 team members ($900 each) and hotel costs for 3 nights ($160 / night). Travel and expenses have been covered by
donations, as well as the marketing budget for the website and additional marketing tools.
Total Funding Goal:
Additional funds will go to sourcing the diagnostic tools and creating the first round of backpacks to be carried by health workers in the slums.
The backpacks themselves will cost about $20 a piece and we will be establishing 100 for the pilot with a total cost of $2,000.
In our first year we will focus mainly on diagnosing women. We choose to recruit women and serve women in the early stages because we know this is an effective way to establish trust within the community and work with the main family influencers regarding
healthcare for the entire family.
We have identified medical partners and NGOs in Europe and India to provide the tools at low/subsidized costs.
These tools in phase 1 will include the "vinegar test" which is for cervical cancer and will cost about $3 / test. The total cost for this test alone will be $300.
Two additional tests of similar cost will be sourced, for a total cost of $900.
Training for our ambassadors will require one month and will be conducted with our outreach and NGO partners in Mumbai at no cost.
