theotherstraw is a social enterprise addressing one of the world’s biggest challenges - plastic pollution. We’re replacing single-use plastic straws with reusable, ethical, sustainable bamboo straws.
The sad news is that it is estimated by 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean. The good news? We can do more to prevent this from happening.
Since launching theotherstraw in 2018, we’ve kept millions of single-use plastic straws out of our landfills and our oceans. But, we want our impact to go beyond straws.That is why we’re aiming to develop our new product range - ‘theotheressentials’. This new range of sustainable products will reduce single-use plastics entering our natural environments and oceans by equipping businesses and individuals with sustainable, reusable alternatives.

We're Jamie and Len, the founders and couple behind theotherstraw. Single-use plastic seriously sucks. It really frightens us to think of the beautiful world in which we live today would simply not be available for our children or grand-children. This is a sad reality if we continue to consume single-use plastics at our current rate.
theotherstraw was born from our devotion to the ocean and eagerness to address plastic pollution. With 8 million tons of plastic being dumped into our oceans every year, our marine life is swallowing more plastic than ever before. We’re here to uphold the beautiful, clean Australia. Together, we can turn the tide on plastic pollution and protect our beautiful oceans and natural environments.
- Since launching in October 2018, we’ve put 28,000 reusable bamboo straws in peoples' beverages! This means that we’ve prevented millions of single-use plastic straws entering landfills and our oceans.
- 3080 conversations about plastic waste and pollution sparked by theotherstraw with businesses and individuals around Australia.
- 11,500 individuals and businesses educated on the impacts of single-use plastic straws and their plastic footprint.
- 45 local ocean cleanups supported.
- A portion of our profits support ocean cleanups and protection projects in Australia.
We have also been supporting economic opportunities and sustainable job creation to Hmong people and minority groups in Northern Vietnam. This helps improve the livelihoods and well-being for themselves, their families and their communities
