Between 2014 and 2015 the drawdown of over a million veterans into the workforce is a disaster waiting to happen. There are currently over one million unemployed veterans. The predictable result of this large discharge of new veterans is
despair, depression, divorces, domestic violence, homelessness and a high rate of suicide.
Is this really what we want for our men and women who have served us in the military? Think about it. There simply are not enough jobs to go around.
There are Major Factors Standing In The Way Of Employment
There is Another Way!
V.E.T. helps newly discharged veterans to start up and manage small businesses. Entrepreneurialism is the American Way.
Working in small think tank groups, with local expert speakers, mentors, and workshops V.E.T
fast tracks veterans to entrepreneurial success.
This is not theory or academics. This is practical, been-there, ground floor advice from real entrepreneurs who are doing it every day.
Jim made 65 job applications before he decided to start his own business. Several of his friends in the Army killed themselves, frustrated and depressed because of the transition to civilian life. But Jim was determined not to fall into that trap. Sure,
he misses his buddies. But, if the Army taught him anything it was how to get up, dust yourself off and get back to the fight. George, Jim's uncle, has offered to help him open his own business, and Jim is excited about the idea. But, How to start? How
to get clients? Taxes, employees, marketing, all of this is a mystery to Jim.
We have those answers and the support Jim needs.

Steps to Help Veterans Achieve Independence
Step 1 - Call out to veterans who want to be entrepreneurs. We have 53,000 names in a database. Our Board of Directors are all retired officers. We're keyed into pre-discharge training offered by the military. Social media outlets are
gearing up. We got this covered.
Step 2 - Start workshops focused on business topics. This is a no brainer for us. We've been giving business workshops for nearly 30 years. Take a look at our Meetup where we have nearly 800 members. www.meetup.com/sdmarketing. Yes,
there are lots of workshops. But ours are geared to veterans, who want to be with other vets who understand them.
Step 3 - Interview those veterans who want to join the groups and acquaint them with local resources. Decide who belongs in a group and who doesn't. Participation for veterans is free.
Step 4 - Roll out new groups. We've run these kind of groups for over 25 years.
Each Week A Local Small Business Expert Speaks To The Group On A Topic. Over 13 weeks the participants get an intensive introduction to a business subject.
The Small Business Administration states that veterans are 67% more likely to be self-employed compared to civilians in a March 2011 study “Factors Affecting Entrepreneurship among Veterans.” This study also found that recently discharged
veterans have personality characteristics which pre-dispose them for success.
With the passage of the American Jobs Act and government procurement set-asides for women and disabled veterans, veterans who want to be entrepreneurs can continue to serve their country by building new small businesses.
According to Ernst & Young Global Limited, female veterans make particularly successful entrepreneurs. Characteristics such as resilience, discipline and focus, willingness to collaborate, strong motivation and strategic orientation, which are lifesaving
on the battlefield, can also be winners in the corner office.
