In 2012, my Dad and I went to Solomon Islands on a water supply project. We formed a small team and travelled to Fa'arau village on the Island of Malaita.
A drilling rig was donated for the project and the team helped the village to drill a well. The local community worked together in building a tower for water tanks and laying out a pipeline to the village. My Dad and I provided and installed a solar water
pumping system to provide water to the village of around 250 people. The new Fa'arau water supply system was born.
In January 2014, the solar pumping system was struck by lightning and it is irreparably damaged. My dad and I are planning to return and install a replacement system - this time with lightning protection. A new and better solar pumping system has been offered
to us at cost price $1,300 ($3,500RRP).
To fundraise for this pump system, I have set myself the goal of completing a Half Ironman Challenge in early April. This will invovle a 1.9km lake swim, 90km road ride, 21km run. It will require training, discipline and endurance, but I'm willing and ready
to get wrecked for water.
Please consider sponsoring me in this cause to bring water to a thirsty community.
P.S. Check out the rewards!
