Description
Over 800 million people cannot read or write above minimum standards. Up to 40% of them are made up of children and teenagers
Australia is a first-world nation but
80% of young people in remote and rural indigenous communities cannot read. We continue to help 3rd world countries in need but not our own neighbours. Bus Of Books want to change that.
Lack of basic literacy skills is one of the biggest barriers to ‘closing the gap’, creating deep social disadvantages and limiting opportunities later in life. More than ever before, a young person’s success today is closely linked to their ability to express
their ideas with clarity and certainty.
By supporting literacy education in remote communities, Bus of Books hopes to foster change in welfare dependent communities by inspiring the imaginations of young people and empowering them to seek higher learning and employment opportunities.
