Our Story
We are a group of individuals who are filled with passion and hope for a better future. Our members come from all different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, but when we get together as a team, those differences do not matter anymore, because we always
strive hard to move towards a common goal, which is the development of youth leadership potentials.
As the local chapter of one of the largest global youth-run not-for-profit organisations, AIESEC Melbourne is committed to work and put all of our efforts into delivering the programs that will most benefit the growth of all young leaders that we have the
opportunity to work with.
However, we know that we will not be able to do this alone. That's why we need your help to make one of our future projects a reality.
Our Project
One of our main programs that is in need of support is the Global Citizen Program, which is coordinated by AIESEC Melbourne's members.
* The program will have students and AIESEC volunteers co-create a project that runs at a specific school or not-for-profit (NFP) organisation in our local community.
* The project created by our volunteers will be different and tailored for each school or NFP organisation, catering to the needs of each organisation.
* Usually, the project will aim at teaching students about cultural awareness and introducing them to a more worldly perspective.
* A new project is also in progress to bridge cultures amongst youths in Australia, where the international volunteers will help minimise the gap between the domestic and international students, contributing to make Australia a more diverse yet unified community.
AIESEC Melbourne is seeking your help to make one future project like this a reality. Specifically, we are making plans to bring over
five volunteers from overseas for a two-month stay with us
at AIESEC Melbourne.
The volunteers will be working with Kids Off The Kerb on a project to prevent students from discontinuing highschool at a young age or staying in the workforce. Our volunteers will come from a range of different backgrounds and cultures
for our six week program in order to faciliate the empowerment of youth in Australia by using the tools and resources available to them to create a community related project bring educational and social benefits beyond a regular classroom experience for high
school students.
Why It Matters
This project, coordinated by AIESEC Melbourne, will provide leadership opportunities to students and volunteers through a unique cross-cultural experience.
* It facilitates the exchange of knowledge, expertise and working methods of individuals with different cultural backgrounds.
* We hope to create shared awareness and understanding of key issues and culture in not only Australia, but the volunteer’s native country as well.
The five volunteers will have the chance to work to create projects for not-for-profit organisations and our local schools, which will have significant impacts in our community, while gaining knowledge and skills for themselves as well.
When the volunteers are working in not-for-profit organisations, they will have the chance to give back through community programs, where they will devote their time towards building projects that help solve specific problems in
our community from within a not-for-profit organisation, and engaging with locals from diverse backgrounds.
By introducing carefully selected overseas volunteers into not-for-profit organisations, we expect that the volunteers' unique international perspective will help to stimulate innovation and growth within the organisations and, thus, benefit our local community.
Also, the volunteers will be able to develop their own skills in the area of social entreprenurship as well.
When the volunteers are working in local high schools, the Australian students will be exposed to a whole new culture beyond their own, which provides them the chance to gain a better knowledge of different cultural
values.
We believe that, if the students are given the opportunity to experience different cultures, their views on cultural issues and differences will most likely to become more hollistic and open-minded. The type of actions that they take would also be different.
The way they come to view different cultures and people with different backgrounds would also be positively influenced. This would ultimately contribute to help reduce the discrimination level and cultural segregation that still exists in our community today.
More than that, the students in local schools where the volunteers have had the chance to work with will also have the opportunity to develop their own leadership stories and an experience of growth unlike anything else! They in turn will get inspired and
have the confidence to create change in their own local community and the world.
The Purpose of Our Project
The purpose of the project is to help disadvantaged youths to raise awareness within different communities on the different social issues that pervade our society today. We believe that, given the right tools, these individuals can make a change on how we
tackle these issues, as international volunteers may have a different perspective on the most effective way to tackle these issues today.
