This project has one simple primary goal: to buy a solar recharger for a young writer in Gaza named Omar Ghraieb, who tweets as
@Omar_Gaza and blogs at
. Omar is an independent
18 year old who passionately describes what is happening around him, but he frequently cannot write because there is no power to charge his laptop. The main power generator in Gaza has been destroyed, and buildings are restricted to a few precious hours electricity
a day from their own generators.
$200 Tipping Point Goal
The primary goal is $200, which should be enough to buy a solar charger and send it to Omar. If it proves impossible to send it due to the Israeli embargo, the money could be sent direct to Omar so he can buy one from within Gaza (if possible). Otherwise
the charger could be sent with someone travelling to Gaza (e.g. humanitarian workers).
If we get more that $200, the money would be used to either buy Omar a new laptop (sounds like he needs one) or to buy solar chargers for other independent voices in Gaza who face similar problems. It is really important for the world to hear the voices
of these independent writers in Gaza today!
