I am an emerging filmmaker and volunteer my time and resources to the Cambodian Broadcasting Network, founded in Melbourne, Australia, by Cameron Sar. My role in CBN is Vice President. I also contribute as a producer, editor and videographer.
As a fifth generation Australian, I gain satisfaction from contributing to and learning about a culture so different to my own.
Filmmaking to me is about connecting with people and sharing stories, folklore and history. As a filmmaker I would like to delve into the revealing, colourful stories of everyday people that trigger memory, response and emotion.
This film project CREATE COMMUNITY CAMBODIA is a documentary by the Cambodian Broadcasting Network - with partners Mayibuye Cambodia and Swinburne University.
Mayibuye Cambodia, a not for profit organisation providing access to arts education in rural areas of Cambodia and will be sewing the seed of renewal by constructing a community arts centre in Kampot Province, in south Cambodia. This building project will be
the nucleus of a documentary film entitled:
MAYIBUYE - Bringing Back What Was Lost
In February 2014, the Cambodian Broadcasting Network will following six carpentry students from suburban Melbourne, Australia, to Cambodia. It is here that they will undertake the challenge of building this arts centre far from the
comforts of their first world existence alongside Khmer trades people and learn to adapt to a world without resources, in a nation that has suffered substantial deprivation and misplacement.
We aim to give the next generation of Cambodians a voice.
In February 2014, a small film crew of eight Cambodians and Australians plan to travel to Kampot, volunteering their time and resources to document this inspiring change in the rural community of Chumkriel. It’s the dawn of a new
era, brought about by partnerships with the mutual goal of effecting long lasting change.
