OUR STORY
One thing we realized in Zanzibar is that learning new languages is not easy compared to many other countries. The main problem is that we don't have a free school system. Our parents must work hard to enable their children to attend school.
We decided to help people for free and want to make sure that orphans, disabled youth and adults get free access to school in the village of Muungoni, Zanzibar. As well we want to give them humanity-focused values to take them with in their future life.
To be able to do so, we rent classrooms of a private school in Muungoni for two hours every night from Wednesday to Saturday. Additionally we already got some volunteers through workaway.info who helped us with the first steps, such as taking pictures of the environment, creating a donation page or setting up a bank account. We are very proud and thankful for you! However, the important goals have not been achieved.
THE PROBLEM
It's very difficult to build up an NGO in our country. We have already tried to get help from other organizations. Later, we realized that they weren't interested in our person. It turned out some of them have even stolen our ideas and they've never called us back. It really drives us crazy! As well all registrations that need to be confirmed by the governments which we urgently need in order to get support from them and not to being stuck on everything are very expensive. In addition, an official NGO assures the protection of our volunteers.
Moreover we must expand our volunteers house to accommodate more than a maximum of only two. In one of the rooms there is only one mattress on the floor, the other already has a bed.
In addition, there is a lack of equipment such as english books and blank paper.
OUR SOLUTION
We are a group of informal educators and volunteers who passionately like to help people, teach English and think outside the box. We believe the best way to build a hopeful future for disadvantaged children is to offer free English lessons.
The only payment we have is the rent of the classrooms. It's a matter of social engagement, so we will use all the profits to build sustainable help for the students.
Furthermore we would like to ensure a pleasant stay for the volunteers by installing solar-powered fans and the possibility to provide our own bicycles to volunteers.
There is a lot to do, but with the right tools and support everything will be possible.
