About US
Founded in summer 2012, the Amicus Young Entrepreneurs Fund, or AYEF, is a nonprofit dedicated to advocating for and supporting youth entrepreneurship.
Our Story
In April 2011, Garrett and Dylan, then sophomores in high school, decided to start their own business, Amicus Products. When looking to start their business, they relied heavily on family and friends for guidance, support,
and investments, as there were no organizations that were willing to help them. They further realized this when durring the spring of 2012 they were looking to expand Amicus Products. They did not want to return to family and friends asking for money and did
not want to bother them with questions about what to do next. They had found there experience running an online startup to be so rewarding that they wanted other youth around the nation to have an opportunity to experience it. So, in the summer of 2012, they
founded the AYEF in order to provide advice and fiscal support to youth entrepreneurs nationwide, in an effort to give them valuable experience and help fix the U.S. economy.
Why Youth Entrepreneurship Matters
Youth entrepreneurship is perhaps one of the most undervalued aspects of both our economy and education system. Everyone realizes how important small businesses are to our economy, but they often overlook those owned by youth.
These companies not only provide jobs, but they are the future of our economy. These companies will experience the most growth in their tenure and many will eventually become large corporations. These companies also help to educate our youth. Why spend precious
class time and resources teaching business in our schools, when we can help to give these youth actual real-world experience. Nothing replaces the value of this. Instead of learning about basic principles and hypothetical senarios, youth learn about what principles
acytually matter and get to experience real life problems and work to fix them. This experience gives them a tremenedous advantage in the future because they will have already experienced and dealt with what many have not. And even if their companies do not
last, they are more likely to go on to found a different company in the future that may be even more prosperous or be able to revolutionize an already exisitng company by using their past experiences and knowledge.
