Keegan was 2 years old when he was diagnosed with hyper-IgE syndrome… Mum said “I thought we were going to lose him. He was so sick and so weak, I just didn’t know what was going to happen”.
Hyper IgE is an extremely rare immunodeficiency disorder which makes Keegan so vulnerable to infections that he is restricted to his room for many weeks at a time.
Now 15 years old Keegan is still battling his illness, and is still isolated. For a 15year old life is so hard … Keegan misses out on so much school and just really misses his friends.
At Keegan’s home, there is a sign on the door saying, “Stop. Think. Are you ill? We have a child that must not get sick.” When Keegan falls ill, he develops pneumonia and needs to be rushed to hospital because cysts have developed on his lungs. He has spent
months in hospital and a few years ago his right lung was removed. There have been more recent complications, including 1.2 litres of fluid around his heart that needed to be drained, however, keeps coming back. This is a serious concern as the fluid pushes
down on his lungs and eventually will leave Keegan no choice but to have a lung transplant.
Being trapped in a hospital bed for months on end is really tough for Keegan and his family. He is missing out on a normal childhood and all the fun times that goes with that.
There is one thing that helps Keegan get through the lonely and boring stints in isolation… Mighty Car Mods!
Keegan watches this show whenever he gets the chance… Anything to do with cars, he loves, so it’s no surprise his wish is to meet the creators of his favourite car show, ‘Might Car Mods’.
Keegan is a brave young man who has already suffered through an enormous amount of pain in his young 15 years. His mum says, “Keegan is so good, he doesn’t let his condition get him down or affect his school work. He is a really tough kid and when in hospital
has never once said ‘I want to go home’. He is such an amazing boy but I can see how hard this has been on him all these years”.
Help us grant Keegan’s wish to meet the guys from the ‘Mighty Car Mods’.
This wish is something that Keegan has been looking forward to and making it come true would be a way to bring some happiness to a boy who has been through so much.
